Die The Game Awards (TGA2018) ist die größte und wichtigste Auszeichnung in der Spielbranche. Sie findet am 06. + 07. Dezember 2018 im Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles statt.

Gewählt werden die Awards von einer Fachjury. Sie besteht zum größten Teil aus Magazinen der Spielbranche. Diese werden 90 Prozent der Gewichtung bekommen. Eure Meinung ist aber keineswegs unerwünscht. Ihr dürft ebenfalls in allen Kategorien abstimmen und eure Stimmen werden zu 10 Prozent mit den anderen verrechnet.

Bereits im Vorfeld haben sich zwei Titel als ganz klare Favoriten auf die Awards herauskristallisiert. Das ist zu einem God of War und zum anderen das kürzlich erschienene Western Epos Red Dead Redemption 2. Wie vielleicht dem ein oder anderen beim Lesen gerade aufgefallen ist, sind dies beides Sony/PS4 Exklusivtitel. Interessante Entwicklung wie ich finde. Letztes Jahr waren auch die Konsolentitel relativ stark vertreten und Zelda: Breath of the Wild konnte ordentlich abräumen. Dies führt zwangsläufig zu der Frage, ob die Konsolen mit Ihrer aktuellen Generation wieder weiter in den Fokus rücken bzw ob die Konsolen der vielleicht nächsten Generation wieder stärkeres Gewicht haben dürften bei der Spielentwicklung. Vielleicht liegt es auch einfach an der guten Performance der Switch und der PS4. Beide Konsolen haben gute Umsätze erzielt.
